The first day of the NCAA tournament is winding down.
So far no huge upsets but you never know what the next day will bring.
North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough certainly had a first game to remember.
The Poplar Bluff native not only scored 22 points to help lead the top seeded Tar Heels to victory over Radford but also set the ACC career scoring record. Hansbrough passed former Duke stand out J.J. Redick early in the first half to top Redick's record of 2, 769 points.
Next up for Tyler and company a meeting with LSU in round two.
The Missouri Tigers tip off NCAA tourney play Friday as the number three seed in Boise Idaho against number 14 Cornell.
What an opening day in Columbia for a couple of Heartland basketball teams.
Portageville started Class 2 state semifinal play with a 60-53 victory over Miller.
Donnell Minnis led the way with 14 points. Portageville will play Harrisburg for the title Friday at 12:20 p.m.
The Scott County Central Braves rolled in their Class 1 state semifinal game beating Glasgow 78-44. Drew Thomas scored 31 points in the winning effort.
The Braves will play Newtown-Harris Saturday at 12:20 p.m. for the championship.
