The Cape Central football team has experienced some lean times in recent years.
The Tigers finished 1-and-19 in the first two years of head coach Rich Payne.
But following Friday nights 41-6 victory over New Madrid County Central, it's a great time to be a Tiger.
From the outside looking in, the outcome may come as a shock. But to those keeping a close eye on the Cape Central program over the past few years, the teams sudden success should not be a huge surprise.
The reason appears to be simple, the players have bought into Rich Payne's system. I had an opportunity to stand on the Tigers sideline last year against Jackson and the teams enthusiasm even in defeat was sky high!
I've also talked to some of the parents of some Cape seniors who tell me how hard the guys have been working to turn this thing around.
Although it's way too early to call 2010 a turnaround season just yet, the Tigers have already taken one giant step forward.
See you Friday night on Heartland Football Friday.
